The value of a diamond is primarily derived from the evaluation of 4 characteristics: colour, clarity, cut and carat weight. Metal is weighted separately and priced by type (Gold, Silver, Platinum) and quality (10k, 14k, 18k).
High demand designer jewelry, antique & rare jewelry pieces from renowned jewelers like Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpel, Harry Winston will drive higher prices than the intrinsic value of their component.
No. The main purpose of a Jewelry Appraisal is to provide a product description and a high retail replacement value for insurance purpose only.
This does not necessarily reflect the prevailing market price. Also, our offers are based on the wholesale prices for similar items and not the retail price for the end consumer.

Yes, we will remove the diamond from the mounting. To obtain a firm offer and insure you get the most value for your diamonds, it is preferable to inspect them loose. Only then are we able to properly determine or confirm your diamonds classification. This process is done in front of you in the security and comfort of one of our offices.
Depending on the number of items you have, it generally takes between 15 to 30 minutes to complete the appraisal and make you a final payment offer. The whole process is done in front of you in the privacy and comfort of one of our secured offices.
Yes, we purchase various types of gold jewelry in 10k, 14k, 18k and 22k.We also purchase gold coins and bars from the Royal Canadian Mint or other reputable manufacturers.
We buy many types of jewelry but focus on items with single diamonds over 1 carat of any colour or shape, with or without any certification. The fact your jewelry is old or that some pieces are broken, doesn’t make them less desirable to purchase.

No, the cost is relatively the same. This is driven by the fact that items don’t have to be stocked for a long period of time.
It usually takes between 3 to 6 weeks pending on the complexity of the jewelry.
Your jewelry item will be entirely personalized to your taste and preferences. It will also be completely unique as we never produce two similar products. The quality of our craftsmanship is second to none and every small detail is studied with the upmost care. We work with the best craftsmen in our workshop in Montreal and only use material of the highest quality. Namely, we only use Canadian Diamonds pave stones (small diamonds) in all our mountings.
Yes, all our jewelry is produced locally in our Montreal workshop.
Yes, we do most jewelry repairs (welding, plating, polishing, setting, sizing) in our Montreal workshop.
Yes, it is possible to reuse and recycle old jewelry pieces and make new ones out of them. It is both an economical and eco-friendly way to give new life to old or unused jewelry.
All jewelry items are delivered with a high-end Laferrière & Brixi personalized box, ribbon and bag.
No, exchanges and returns are not applicable on custom jewelry items. Since you will be involved in all the jewelry making steps: from the approval of the drawing to the wax model, you will be certain to obtain the result you wished for.
The ring size can be easily adjusted and only takes a few days to complete. Rest assured that we will make sure your ring will be adjusted to perfection.
Buying Diamonds

- Our overhead expenses are low. We do not work with the same cost structure of traditional jewelry stores.
- We have a privileged and direct access to a large inventory of diamonds from all the main diamond manufacturing and distribution centers in the world. Of note, Laferriere & Brixi is one of the few Canadian compagnies to be a Member of the New York Diamond Dealers Club.
- We buy rough stones that we cut ourselves. We are part of a select few accredited buyers to have access to rough stones directly from miners like DeBeers without any intermediaries.
- We are true diamond experts which enables us to identify and opportunistically purchase diamonds at the best price. We have been purchasing polished and rough diamonds for over 20 years and have an intimate knowledge of all the subtlety that can influence the price of this commodity.
Yes, all our diamonds come with a certificate from a reputable gemological laboratory like the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). Furthermore, we also provide an independent appraisal from an external firm for all purchases. This independent appraisal confirms the classification of your diamond and provides a replacement value for insurance purposes.
Yes. We will first determine the resell value of your diamond/jewelry. You can then decide to apply this amount towards a future purchase or choose to cash-in the amount.

Our company subscribes to the Kimberley Process which seeks to eliminate diamonds originating from conflict zones to enter the diamond supply chain. We demand that our suppliers also subscribe to the Kimberly Process and provide written guarantees about the ethical sourcing of their products. Also, Laferrière & Brixi was one of the first compagnies to be a signatory of the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct.
No. We only sell natural diamonds. We are strong advocates for natural diamonds because they are better for the environment and help foster economic development in the local communities in which they are mined.
While laboratory-grown (synthetic) diamonds are a bad investment (please read the following article), only natural diamonds can maintain value over time even in difficult economic circumstances.
Yes, we are an accredited buyer for several mining companies like DeBeers. If your company subscribes to the Kimberley Process, you can contact us to share your available inventory.
